Position: Assistant Coach Current Team: RK Vardar Number: 14 Caps: 79 Agent: Marcel Pagliotta
(Childhood) I do not really know when I began having interest in sports, but the first memory that I am aware of, is when I heard my dear mother saying over and over that I have to do sport. As a child I practiced all sports: basketball, handball, handball, table tennis … with my inseparable friend Marcel, who is now my agent, rode bikes, went fishing in the river … I started playing football at the age of five, I liked and enjoyed it a lot , as almost all kids of my age . I can never forget that we used to train in the old football field, where a new one has been built in the school. There was a pond behind one of the goals, and how many times we had to pull the rod to “fish” the balls ..one of those things you remember! Now the new pavilion of the town is on this site. I also dabbled in basketball, but either the ball was too big for the small ring or very small ring for the big ball. A couple of months were enough, for everybody to be glad of my decision to change course. (Youth) At the age of 13, my neighbor Joe Palauans thought those long arms and big hands were wasted playing football. Whenever he saw me,he said: You have to sign up for handball! And he convinced me to try the sport that has given me many things I have now, although nothing falls from the sky. My first coach was Xavi Pujol, who apart from being the goalkeeper of the first team was my neighbour . Shortly after starting, a scout for BM Granollers, better known as “Manas” took me to the BM Granollers until I debuted with the first team , at the age of age 17, I went through all the ranks of club and all types of vicissitudes and sacrifices hours of train and car for training sessions and matches … endless … On a personal and sports level, I was very lucky because I met a generation of players “five stars” who are still my friends Marc Amargant, Vicente Alamo Pagliotta Marcel Gerard Bros … and Miguel Angel Gutierrez, a wonderful coach who taught us all the passion to compete and win, with a lot of handball techniques with doses of vocation and great friendship. (Oviedo) From that moment, my journey started in Spain. In Asturias I experienced life away from my mum, lol. Although Gerard Bros and I lived in an apartment, our contract allowed us to make meals in the Colegio Mayor San Gregorio, where we felt like home and found many friends. Among all the people we met and the teammates , we never felt alone. That year was unforgettable. I love Oviedo, the city and its people. I have very fond memories for many years, if I am free , I have come back to spend some few days or enjoy the festivities of the College.
(Pontevedra) It was in Pontevedra where I really learned to live alone and I had to stand the test of a season without any salary . I think it was one of the hardest years of my career, but also where I met people who stood by me and are now very good friends, Gabi Ben Mode and Magda, and family Quiroga. (Altea) In Altea … how well people live in Altea! It never rained,I enjoyed the sun all the year … The only bad thing is that it was relegated for the second time. `¡ What a record!
(Valladolid) In Valladolid, I was 22 with all the enthusiasm of joining a team that had hitherto served as a “springboard team” to a big team. I still remember the conversation I had with Marcel about the BM Valladolid of those days. We thought that a team with a dynamic game could be good for me, even though I did not know play well. Getting to the BM Valladolid meant an open doors to the world of handball which I most enjoy so much, and explained its meaning clearly . The way they see the game and the sport Juan Carlos Pastor (coach), Jack (now coach of Naturhouse Ciudad de Logroño and then coach at that time) , Raul Gonzalez (central and brain of the team Huerta del Rey and currently second to Talant in BM Atletico Madrid) made me think that I had chosen the right path to my goal. They were certainly very nice six seasons. I remember, as I had descended with two teams and started the league a bit regular, everyone was scared, jijiji, but the truth is that the season ended so admirable. Not to forget the King’s Cup that was held in Zaragoza at that time. We had to play against the great Portland San Antonio in the first round, which most of the players had prepared their suitcase for just one day, but to the surprise of all we got to the end. Can you imagine?! Four more days! In Valladolid I got a unique game style and my partner, plus my love of wine and my taste for lamb and good food, of course.
(National Team) Just when I thought about ending my sports life in Pucela , the offer from the all-powerful Ciudad Real came. A new stage was then opened. I signed in the capital of La Mancha in December 2004, at the same time when Juan Carlos Pastor took over the Spanish national team and decided to join me in the team four years after my debut in the senior team in the World Cup 2001 in France with Caesar Argilés . For me, playing in the national team is just great. Everyone is more relaxed than in the clubs and share experiences. During my years in the team, David Barrufet was my roommate. I think it´s lucky because besides being a legendary player he is, above all, an excellent person. The dream of the Olympics began to take shape as best as I could imagine. The gold obtained in the 2005 Tunis World Championship ,was enough to bet that Pastor would continue until 2008 Beijing Olympics. But by the way we also got the second place in the European Switzerland in 2006 and had to overcome fluctuations in our results. The Olympic goal was desirable, but it´s worth and the bronze medal against Croatia tasted like heaven.
(Ciudad Real) And what about my experience in Ciudad Real. Until then, I had always played with number 15, but when I got to the club Manchego, the number was occupied by Mirza Dzomba. I wondered which would be my number: 14, and wanted to know if it was a draw or someone had chosen it for me. I It was chosen by Raul Gonzalez. 14 is the number that my Captain had had in Pucelano as a player ,, and I was so happy to have this number . Besides , my arrival coincided with the arrival of other excellent players in the team: Siarhei Rutenka, Petar Metlicic …I was in a cloud, a unique opportunity to prove myself worth of playing in first class. The team’s track record is hard to match in my life and leaves an indelible legacy of professionalism and passion for sport at the highest level. Share a dressing room with some of my colleagues in Ciudad Real has been a luxury Stefanson, Rutenka, Metlicic, Dzomba, Urios, Jackobsen, Laen, Pajovic, Zorman … those who have already left. But we must add those who are still with me. So it is easy to enjoy the work every day, as the parents of my girlfriend say !it´s wonderful! Being under Duyshebaev Talant and Raul Gonzalez is another wonder. I consider it a luxury to have been under the command of which, in my opinion, is the best couple of trainers at the moment. I can only say good things about them that will fill a library. I can not forget that in my two children were born in Cuidad Real, the best thing that ever happened in my life, and there, we have spent the “hardest” and most beautiful years with them, there they made their first friends (and we have become friends of the parents of their friends) they started school there, where they enjoy and study music, learned to swim … so many unique things.
(Athletic Madrid) The summer of 2011 was turbulent and marked the disappearance of BM Ciudad Real and the creation of Handball Club Atlético de Madrid. The crisis is playing havoc in sports generally and handball in particular, but the transfer of the team to the capital allows this major project not to disappear. Continue with the path of victories from previous seasons is a complicated goal, but I am one of those who think that nothing is impossible. All these years of journeys and changes of teams have given me some good friends and I have learnt many different ways to live, share good experiences and learn to fight all the way to fulfill my sports dreams which has always been getting the Olympic gold medal. Having won the bronze is not bad either, hehe. • H Palautordera • BM Granollers • Naranco Oviedo (1995-1996) • SD Teucro Pontevedra (1996-1997) • BM Altea (1997-1999) • BM Valladolid (1999-2005) • BM Ciudad Real (2005 – 2011) • BM Atletico Madrid (2011 – 2013)
